NEIL COPP  –  CA
Director

 

Neil has almost 30 years commercial and professional accountancy experience.  A qualified Chartered Accountant he specialises in Commercial Transactions, Structuring, Business Strategy and Business Taxation.

He commenced his professional career with KPMG Peat Marwick and Danby Bland Provan in Camberwell.  He left the profession to work in senior management roles in the Manufacturing, Contracting, Information Technology and Government sectors before returning to the profession as manager of Walker Williams CPA.  In 2005 he left to form Copp & Co before merging with Brett Hughes to create the Sphere Group in 2015.

He has a real passion for, and specialises in, assisting businesses in developing and executing strategies that create business viability.

Neil is married to Michele.  His interests include travel, sports and family – Neil is blessed to have a large extended family and spends most of his spare time between dinner’s with them, catching up with his 4 grown children, 2 grandchildren and planning his next holiday.

BRETT HUGHES  –  CPA
Director

Brett has over 20 years of accounting and public practice experience. A qualified Certified Practising Accountant, he is a Registered Tax Agent and holds a Public Practising Certificate with CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CAANZ).

After 10 years as principal of Brett Hughes Accounting he merged with Copp & Co in 2015 and is now one of two directors of Sphere Accountants and Advisors Pty Ltd.

Brett specialises in Property Transactions, Land Development, Medical Services, Real Estate, the Horse Racing Industry and Business Structures and he has a passion for helping all individuals and SME’s and believes Accountants should do more than prepare tax returns.

He is committed to providing support through business advice, mentoring, strategic planning and tax strategies to ambitious individuals who are thinking of setting up their own business, or existing businesses looking to go to the next level.

Having lived on the Peninsula all his life, Brett still resides locally with his wife Sharyn and two children.  He enjoys watching his kids in their sporting endeavours whilst still loving to play golf at every opportunity.

LEANNE TUNBRIDGE
Leanne has more than 35 years’ experience in the industry as a fully qualified CPA.  Leanne’s wealth of knowledge will see her in a Consultancy role offering clients a broad range of options in business advisory and strategic planning. Leanne has a personable nature and prefers plain-speaking descriptions of financial matters over the sometimes complicated ‘industry speak’.   Outside of the office, Leanne likes to spend time with her husband Anthony, 2 grown children and recently completed the ‘Run for the Kids’ marathon.

MELINDA KALKBRENNER
Melinda has a Bachelor of Accounting and over 10 years of experience within the industry.  She joined us in early 2016 and brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. Melinda quickly established herself as a leader for the younger members of the team and is currently studying for her CPA.  Melinda has lived on the Mornington Peninsula for over 16 years, and is married to Peter with 2 teenage children.  When she isnt in the office or studying, Melinda likes to travel, go out with friends and wander around the many local markets.

STEFFANIE EASTWOOD
Steffanie has a Bachelor of Business (Economics, Finance & Financial Planning).  After working for several years in the financial planning industry, Steffanie moved into Accounting and enjoys working with local trades and Self Managed Super Funds.  She has been working towards getting her CPA qualifications and is planning a night out with friends to celebrate when this is finally completed.
Having grown up on the Mornington Peninsula, Steffanie can be found most weekends in summer at the beach spending time with friends and family.  In winter she really loves to hit the slopes and snowboard.

MICHAEL CLEARY
After studying at RMIT, Michael graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting).  After honing his skills at PGA Australia, he joined us in mid 2017 just before the start of the tax season and was virtually thrown in at the deep end.  We are pleased to advise that he certainly knows how to swim and has become a valuable member of staff.  Michael is also studying for his CPA and hopes to complete this shortly.  Away from the office, Michael can be found renovating the unit he and his girlfriend recently purchased on the peninsula.  He is also hoping (in 2018) for a successful return to football with Mt Eliza after a knee reconstruction.

ADAM BERESFORD
Adam is still at Swinburne University although he will be qualified by mid 2018 with a Bachelor of Buisness (Accounting & Finance).  He has slotted in quickly and been able to apply alot of what he has learnt at Uni to everyday life in a public practice.  When he isnt working, Adam likes to hang out with his mates, play hockey or go four wheel driving.

ALLYSON GENNERY
Allyson has been a member of our team since April 2007 and is our ‘go to’ person for most things relating to BAS as her knowledge is vast and she too is a valuable member of our team.  Ally is married to Adrian with 2 grown children and 3 grandies.  Outside the office, Ally is a member of 2 netballs teams and will soon be sitting behind her husband on his new motorbike as they discover more of the Mornington Peninsula.

 

MICHELLE STEVENS
Michelle comes to us with a wealth of knowledge from being in the industry for over 20 years and has decided to take the plunge and formally get her Bachelor in Accounting.
Michelle is a Mornington girl having lived her entire life on the Peninsula and has 2 teenage boys who keep her on her toes.  When she isn’t working, Michelle is actively involved in her local cricket club and loves watching footy and cricket, socialising with friends or cheering on her beloved Collingwood.

 

 

SOPHIA ALBAJESO
Sophie has a Bachelor of Science (Accountancy) degree and is also a qualified CPA. Even though she only been in  Accounting for a few years, she is very much a welcome addition to the team.  Away from the office, Sophie loves to spend time with her husband, son and extended family.

 

HELEN KEEGAN
Helen is our Office Manager and Receptionist and she is usually the first person most clients see upon their arrival to the office. Helen has been with the firm since late 2008 and often wears many hats from “ASIC guru” to “IT know it all” – although she does concede that she doesn’t actually ‘know it all’..  She has 2 grown children and a dog who is always very happy to see her come home at the end of the day.  Although not a peninsula local, Helen does love the area and when she is not at the office, likes to read, cook and dream about all the places in the world she would love to visit.  She successfully ticked off a solo trip to New York City and Eastern Canada in mid 2017.
